EVALUATION Q2.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Media representations are the ways in which the media portrays particular groups, communities, experiences, ideas, or topics from a particular ideological or value perspective.

In our final product I play the role of the "popular girl."

The stereotype of the popular girl is that she is trendy, a show off, someone who cannot see past their reflection. We have followed the socially prescribed perspective of this character.

Following these screen shots are 2
similar pictures from actual movies determining this representation. These pictures is taking from the film "John Tucker Must Die;" a teen movie displaying the conventions of high school life.

In the other screen shots we see Arber who plays an underprivileged youth dressed according to the stereotype.

The picture on the right is a screen shot from the movie "Ill Manors" and we see he is dressed in a similar attire to our character.

EVALUATION Q5.

How did you attract/address your audience?

Our target audience was for people between the ages of 15-30 and urban movie enthusiats. I believe the primary address to our audience was through sound. The urban instrumental 'Chipmunk - My crew' set the tone of the opening sequence and is a sound that many young people have previously heard.

Below is a brief presentaion of some of the screen shots from our final product that I believe provided appeal to our target audience

Audience attraction/address by Slidely Slideshow

Mise-en-scene of the female character

Props:
- Weave
- Small handbag
- Lipstick
- Tight jeans
- Skimpy top
- Earrings

Movement:
- Distinct walk
- Shy grin in the elevator
- Lack of attention paid to surroundings

Young females can relate to these factors therefore brings forward a sense of appeal.

Mise-en-scene of male characters

Props:
- Dark clothing
- Hat
- Baggy jeans
- Stolen drink

Movement:
- First male greeting
- Head turn as girl walks
- Rapid movement after theft

Diagetic sound:
- Male tone "sorry again darling" (london accent)
- Female tone "I'm going to 3rd floor"
- Followed by male tone "aight lets go" ('aight' is colloquial; would attract the young modern male audience)

All of these factors set the mood of the opening sequence and would also bring foward appeal to our target audience

How I personally reached my target audience

I sent the vimeo link of our film to a few friends and these were some of the responses:

EVALUATION Q7.

Looking back at your prelimary task, what do you feel have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

I took the role of camera person for my prelimary task and overall, for a first time, I believe it went fairly well.

LIMITATIONS IN THE PRELIM:

. Lack of variety in the camera angles
. Camera composition was a little off e.g. space above head
. Rule of thirds was not considered
. Lighting was not considered
. Sound was poor

This wide shot was particularly poor as there is too much head space and poor lighting. My filming wasn't very steady and there was also a lot of back ground noise that I didn't pay attention to at the time.
I was content with the match cut we performed and I think this is the best shot filmed throughout the clip.

Since then I have learned to pay more attention to detail, especially to sound and camera angles; and so went on to produce an opening sequence that was a little less amateur.

The above screen shot is from our final product. We titled it 'Love & Education.'

Unlike my preliminary task, we did undergo some planning for our final product. A story board was created and extra ideas were jotted down on paper. Below is a presentation demonstrating the key things I have learnt in this process.

LIMITATIONS IN THE FINAL PRODUCT:

. Sound used for the opening should have started earlier
. More match cuts could have been included
. Lighting should have been used more frequently e.g make up/bathroom scene
. Pay more attention to the motion of the I-dents during title sequence
. More planning during planning stages

Development across both productions:

. Learned the importance of match cuts (preliminary)
. Enhanced my undertanding of the Final Cut Pro software (final product)
. Manage sound appropriately (final product)
. Use a variety of camera angles (preliminary & final product)

Q.7 Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

The preliminary task was to act out a scene from waterloo road, where we walked through a door whilst speaking. There are many things that needed to be improved such as, keeping the camera still, shots, not using zoom, improving on editing by having slower cuts. The lighting could have been improved by change in background colours, also using more fading would have been beneficial. Using cameras at different angles would have improved the shots. The head space on top of the camera would have lost us marks. Most shots were in the middle screen of the camera and therefore meant the shots were not as good because we were meant to have that a specific side of the screen. The massive difference in the final movie was the editing was completed really well, we ensured this perfecting our editing by spending more time on it. We also learnt from our mistakes, particularly when it came down to the use of zoom. We ensured the use of the tripod was used better and this meant that the camera was kept still while recording ensuring better shots and a clearer video. The lighting was much brighter and this meant there were no dark scenes. We used voice overs more effectively to add extra effect to the film.  In the  final film i used music which allowed to have a more effect on the audience but more importantly on the film.

Q.6 What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Q.5 How did you attract/address your audience?

Q.4 Who would be the audience for your media product?

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Love-education/1478151072400868?skip_nax_wizard=true
this is a Facebook Page for my audience. this would allow them to keep up with all the gossip.

Teen movies:

  • People from the ages of 13 to around 20s
  • teen movies would be for these age groups this is because it would appeal to this in a way they can relate to what is going on.
my movie:

  • my target audience would be older 14-25 this is because it is about love and these are the ages people could relate to it.  Our USP is that people could relate and people would want to see it so they can remember how it was with them. also people would watch it with their partners.

Evaluation Question 4

Target Audience for my media product (Teen Movie)

In my teen movie the target audience was  aged between 13-27. It involves romance, crime and education. It was set in college where most teenagers go to for education and socialising. During college most teenagers have romantic experiences and would want to watch a movie about it.
Crime is also a very big factor of the movie as teenagers in London living in rural areas get involed in a lot of crime which involves gangs and drugs.

A example of a famous teen movie which involves crime and romance in London is Kidulthood. It is very popular as it got a 6.8 on the IMDB scale.

Things that involed crime and romance in my movie

Arber Dervishi had a role of a young boy that wasn't rich but did what he can to survive which involed crime (stealing, etc).

Our main actors Arber Dervishi and Jasmine bumped into eachother while Arber was running away as he stole a bottled drink. Jasmine then dropped her books so Arber helped her and from the they fell in love.

Social Media

As we know that our movie is targeted at teenagers we created some pages on social media web sites because in the 21st century nearly all teenagers use a type of social media. It's know that 94% of teenager have facebook accounts.

This is an example of the page we created on facebook........
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Love-education/1478151072400868?fref=ts

We can see that we have got two likes and two comments so far so i believe that the likes and comments will increase as we know that 94% of teenagers have a Facebook page.

Evaluation Question 2

Representation Of characters in my Teen Movie

Arber

Arber was presented as a negative character as he got involved in some crime (stealing) during our movie, but on the other hand was also to be seen as a poor person that does what he has to do to survive.

Jasmine

Jasmine was presented as a positive character as she was the popular ones and was the pretty looking girl.

Target Audience Feedback

Q.1 in what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Evaluation Question 5

Love and Education on Youtube

Love and education posted on FB
Love and Education Fan page

Mise en Scene
Within our teen film we payed great attention to the mise en scene so we could appeal to our target audience as much as possible. The use of technology such as mobile phones was used heavily because it is a large part of our target audiences lives. The costume of our characters also was appropriate to our target audience also because we used sports wear for the male character and the female character was dressed older she was.

Actors
The actors were all young and were within our target audience which made our film so much more realistic.

Storyline
Love in a college or school is a very popular occurance among young people so they can relate to the characters easier.

In order to reach our audience appropriately by haviung a preview for college students only at the screen on the green on the 25th/03/14 and we created facebook, youtube and have it on vimeo.

Final Reflection Post

What has been achieved?

. Storyboard
. Editing evidence
. Opening sequence

After several hours of work we have finally completed our opening sequence! Much to my surprise our best efforts has brought us to meet deadlines and produce a good film.

Sitting with Traivon from noon until evening, editing and blogging, was a strain on us both but completely worth it. All of the targets we'd set from the previous night were met and I believe the long hours I invested paid off. We had finished.

What have you learned?

I have learned a lot more about Final Cut Pro for example, the keys that alter the projection of sound. Whilst editing parts of our film I noticed some clips were louder than some; which brought my attention the keys just mentioned.

I have also learned the importance of time keeping and meeting deadlines. I strongly believe that if previous deadlines were met we may have been able to produce an even better opening.

What could have been done differently?

More attention could have been paid on framework e.g. rule of thirds. I tried my best to use a variety of camera angles during our film, e.g the low angle shot of vehicles, and I can only hope this is recognised. We could have also spent more time editing if we hadn't of had to re-film - this shows a lack of planning and also highlights its importance.

What happens next?

In the next week or so I will be evaluating our film and the journey up to its creation.

The completion of 'Love & Education'

Camera

While taking some of the scenes I tried to use a variety of shots and duplicates so that we can pick the footage we want and delete the ones we don't need. I also took a variety of shots ranging from long shots to extreme close ups of a scene so that we could have match cuts in our teen movie. Match cuts are known to be used in nearly in all modern movies.

Deadline Day - Final Push

To meet today's deadline it was vital that we began working immediately. We designated roles to one another, for example, Mustafa to edit first and Traivon was to re-film what was necessary.

The day started well. While we were huddled around to edit we noticed an incomplete clip (the book scene). With the equipment already pre-booked we quickly set up the filming apparatus and shot new footage (the library scene) to help tidy our current film.

By noon our primary focus was to finish our editing, including the title sequence and all special effects we desired to use. We didn't know

Distribution Ident

Distribution Ident
Today I edited some parts of our Distribution ident which included the font and size of the text and when it was suitable to come in after the effects put in.This included smoke, wind waves and a spinning object.
I put the name of the distribution just under the motion at the right side. I then transported the motion into final cut pro and added sound which had a type writer effect as the letters came one by one.
I believe that it looked excellent as everything looked perfect.

This is how it looked while editing using Motion X......

I added the sound just after we transported this to final cut pro and exported it as .mov format.

MUSIC

i used garageband to add sound music that would go with the movie we have made i used voices and normal sounds to add effects and make the film look and sound interesting.

distribution ident

i had to add effects to it so it can cause awn effect on the audience and look more realistic. I added smoke swerves and the bit in the middle spinning, i decided to do this because i thought it would suit the bit for the distribution ident.

wednesday deadline

Today we have filmed bait of parts added a distribution part and now were just finishing off the editing. we are under pressure to finish it of before the dead line.

  • we have recored a few more scenes.
  • done distribution and tittles
  • nearly finished editing (editing will be finished)
  • everyone working hard together to finish

Schedule for deadline date

I have created a brief presentation using prezi.com to outline what is to be done on the deadline date of our opening sequence. What I want for tomorrow is for each of us to put in 110% through investment of all of our time and so meet the deadline for a completed film.

Hopefully all goes according to plan.

Enjoy :-)

Instagram

Today i created an instagram which would show the process alongside our blog.

Deadline day tomorrow Slight Reflection

Tomorrow is the Deadline day and we still have to do edit our film adding the idents and music. We have left the music until the last minute because we wanted to find appropriate music when the whole film is finished. We have had some ideas as you can see in previous blog posts but have not found one which particularly stood to to us.At this point i am slightly worried we might not make the deadline because earlier this week we found that our clip film was very short, this may mean we have to go out and film a few more shots which will build more of the audiences awareness to the surroundings. This problem could have been dealt with if we had properly planned to do outside shots before the actual students enter the college.

Editing

Today I continued to edit our teen movie by deleting un-wanted footage and discussing as a group on what footage should be used in certain parts. In most of the scenes we took i added effects to it so that it didn't look so plain and didn't just jump from one scene to another and that it was flowing through smoothly.
These included effects such as dissolve and ripple dissolve.
I have also used different effects such as slowing down the speed of some of the footage at specific scenes as it is the opening and needs to look more advanced and interesting.

Final Day Editing

Today I continued to edit our teen movie 'Love and Education'. I used Final cut pro to edit the teen movie. While choosing different scenes to put in I used different effects so that it didn't look so plain and basic. These effects included dissolve so that it was fluent.
Other edits included lowering down the volume of some music notes as it was to loud.

This shot was a tracking shot which followed her walking. we decided to add this shot in because it wasn't only tracking it was also an over the shoulder shot. We decided to use this because it would give  you a idea of what she's experiencing (what she's looking at) also it makes our cuts look better and it makes it look more original.
